Breast cancer is the most common cancer and the leading cause of cancer death among women worldwide. Many studies have shown that tumor suppressor gene alterations are associated with types of cancer, including breast cancer. –C160A alteration in the promoter region of the CDH1 tumor suppressor gene has been found to be associated with increased breast cancer risk worldwide, however, has not been studied in Vietnam. Therefore, we analyzed the –C160A alteration of CDH1 promoter to determine the association with the risk and some pathological features of breast cancer in Vietnam. PCR-RFLP analysis and DNA sequencing were used to determine –C160A alteration in 67 pairs of tissuse sample (tumor and adjacent tumor tissuse) from Vietnamese breast cancer patients. The results showed that the frequency of –160A variant was 37.3% in tumor tissuse and 19.4% in adjacent tumor tissuse. This alteration was associated with increased risk of breast cancer (p<0.05). However, -C160A alteration was not significantly associated with some pathological features sush as: age, differentiation, TNM (lymph–node–metastasis) stage, size of tumor and lymph nodes (p>0.05)...
